NAME
chroot.dev — OpenBSD virtual machines over ssh
SYNOPSIS
ssh chroot.dev command [argument ...]
ssh vm+name@chroot.run
ssh vm+name@chroot.run
DESCRIPTION
chroot.dev runs OpenBSD -current virtual machines. The interface is ssh(1). A new VM answers ssh in under a second.
Each VM gets ssh access by name, an HTTPS endpoint private to you until you share it, and a public IPv6 address of its own.
During the beta, a VM requires an invitation: ask for one at invite@chroot.dev. Access starts with a 14-day trial, then plans from US$ 5 a month.
EXAMPLES
Create a VM named web that serves a page with httpd(8), configured by a script on its first boot:
$ ssh chroot.dev new -n web -w -s /dev/stdin <<EOF
echo 'server "web" { listen on * port 80 }' |
doas tee /etc/httpd.conf >/dev/null
echo 'hi g33ks from chroot.dev' |
doas tee /var/www/htdocs/index.html >/dev/null
doas rcctl enable httpd
doas rcctl start httpd
EOF
Open it to anyone and fetch it:
$ ssh chroot.dev share set-public web $ curl https://web.chroot.run hi g33ks from chroot.dev
A full walk-through is in the quickstart; every command is in intro(1).
