DESCRIPTION
Each account has a plan. Its limits are for the whole account: the sum of all its VMs, stopped ones included. The traffic quota counts every VM of the account in and out over the calendar month (UTC), removed VMs included.
A new account starts on a 14-day trial.
| plan | VMs | cpus | memory | disk | traffic/month | US$ | R$ |
| trial | 1 | 1 | 512 MiB | 5 GiB | 10 GiB | free | free |
| p1 | 3 | 2 | 1 GiB | 25 GiB | 100 GiB | 5 | 25 |
| p2 | 5 | 4 | 2 GiB | 50 GiB | 200 GiB | 9 | 45 |
| p4 | 10 | 4 | 4 GiB | 100 GiB | 400 GiB | 16 | 80 |
Prices are per month. Checkout shows reais in Brazil and US dollars elsewhere. Payments go through Stripe; chroot.dev never sees the card.
A subscription runs on calendar months (UTC): the first charge covers the rest of the current month, prorated, then each month is charged on day 1.
With a subscription, use past the plan is billed at the end of the month instead of being refused or slowed:
- traffic
- US$ 0.02 or R$ 0.10 per GiB past the quota, in whole GiB.
- disk
- US$ 0.10 or R$ 0.50 per GiB-month past the plan's disk, measured each hour, up to twice the plan's disk.
The overage stops at a cap per month, US$ 10 or R$ 50 unless
changed with billing cap. Past it, traffic is no
longer billed and the VMs drop to 1 Mbit/s each way until the month ends. On
the trial and on a free plan there is no overage: past the traffic quota the
VMs run at 1 Mbit/s, and the disk stays at the plan's.
When the trial or a free plan ends, or a payment is 7 days late, the account is suspended: its VMs are stopped and cannot be started or created until it is paid. Nothing is deleted. Emails go to the account's address 3 days before a trial or a free plan ends, when a payment fails, and when the account is suspended or active again.
The commands are as follows:
billing- The plan, where it comes from (trial, free or subscription) and when it ends or renews, this month's traffic and disk against the plan, and, with a subscription, the overage so far and the cap.
billing plans- The plans, their prices and the overage.
billing subscribeplan- Print a link to the Stripe Checkout page for plan. With a subscription already, change it to plan at once; the difference is prorated on the next invoice.
billing portal- Print a link to the Stripe billing portal: card, invoices, billing address, and cancelling, which takes effect at the end of the paid month.
billing capamount |default- Set the most the overage may cost in a month, in the currency of the subscription, or go back to the default.
EXAMPLES
See the plans and subscribe to p1:
$ ssh chroot.dev billing plans $ ssh chroot.dev billing subscribe p1
Days left on the trial:
$ ssh chroot.dev billing --json | jq '(.until - now) / 86400 | floor'
Allow up to US$ 25 of overage a month:
