terms — terms of service

chroot.dev and chroot.run are run by Murilo Ijanc, an individual in Brazil. Using them means accepting these terms and privacy(7). Questions go to contact@chroot.dev.

chroot.dev is a free beta, by invitation. There is no uptime guarantee; the service may change, pause or end. Data may be lost: keep your own copies of what matters.

An account belongs to one person, 18 or older. Whoever holds one of its keys acts as you; keep them safe and remove the ones you lose with ssh-key(1).

Not allowed, from a VM or through the service:

  • mining cryptocurrency;
  • scanning or attacking networks and hosts that are not yours;
  • spam; outbound port 25 is blocked;
  • phishing, malware, botnets and command and control;
  • open proxies and Tor exit nodes;
  • content or activity that is illegal in Brazil, including material that infringes copyright;
  • working around limits, or creating accounts to multiply them.

Report abuse to abuse@chroot.dev. A VM or account that harms others or the service may be stopped without notice; you are told why, unless the law forbids it. The contents of your VMs are not inspected, except to investigate abuse or when required by law.

There are no paid plans yet. When there are, prices are published before they apply, payments go through Stripe, and you may cancel at any time.

Within 7 days of the first payment you may cancel for a full refund, as Brazilian consumer law provides. After that, cancelling stops the next charge; the current period is not refunded. If the service ends, prepaid time not used is refunded.

What you put in your VMs is yours; chroot.dev claims no rights over it. When an account closes, its VMs and disks are deleted within 30 days.

The service is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, liability is limited to what you paid in the last 3 months.

Changes to these terms are announced on the site and by email 30 days before they apply; the date above is the date of the current version.

These terms follow Brazilian law. Consumers may bring claims in the courts where they live.
